Smolyan area draws increasing numbers of culture tourists

To attract growing and better-paying visitors to this God-blessed corner of the country, the Municipality of Smolyan has sought, in recent years, to diversify offers on culture, rural and ecology tourism. Some of the latest tourist attractions in the area have materialized with certain financial support from the EU PHARE Programme.

Five new 3-4 star hotels have sprung up in the town of Smolyan itself. Another five-star hotel is to open doors next year too. Nearly all luxury-class hotels at Pamporovo, the towns of Devin and Zlatograd are equipped with mineral water swimming pools, offering a full range of spa services.

A novelty on the local tourist agenda have been shows of traditional Rhodope Mountain traditional attire, organized by prior arrangement.

The local museum possesses a rich collection of national dress items, consisting of 170 authentic, complete sets of national costumes, men’s, women’s and children’s from across the Smolyan region. The show itself displays the full range of national costume diversity in the Central Rhodope Mountain region against the background of specific Rhodopean tunes and airs.

Smolyan charms tourists with its neigborhoods of well-preserved old houses , cozy restaurants and numerous Christian churches and chapels.
